Legendary Entertainment to open 3-D Immersive Angkor in Siem Reap
Updated: Aug 28

Legendary Entertainment and Culture Group Ltd plans to open Immersive Angkor in late 2026, a major technology-driven cultural attraction intended to bring the history and mythology of the Khmer Empire to life in Siem Reap.
The company presented an update on the project to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during a meeting in China on 17 July. Cambodian government statements described Immersive Angkor as the country’s first technology-enabled immersive 3D museum and said it was expected to open in late 2026 or early 2027. Legendary’s own development timetable continues to target the fourth quarter of 2026.
The 2,000-square-metre attraction is being constructed inside the Living Art Pavilion at Artisans Angkor’s Living Art Village, a few kilometres from the Angkor World Heritage Site. The wider pavilion will also accommodate a coffee restaurant and an Artisans Angkor retail outlet, combining digital interpretation with traditional Cambodian crafts and hospitality. Construction began following a groundbreaking ceremony on 23 February 2026, with the foundations and main structure subsequently taking shape.
Visitors will initially enter an introductory area containing interactive tables and information panels explaining the development and legacy of the Angkorian Empire. The centrepiece will be a 1,000-square-metre immersive theatre in which images are projected across four walls and the floor, surrounding visitors with reconstructions of temples, landscapes and episodes from Khmer history.
Legendary says the curated experience will last more than 60 minutes and could attract approximately 200,000 visitors annually, equivalent to about 550 people a day. The museum will use panoramic 360-degree projections and ultra-realistic three-dimensional reconstructions to explore the rise, reign and continuing cultural influence of the Angkorian civilisation.
The digital material draws on the work of French heritage-technology company ICONEM, which specialises in documenting endangered cultural sites through advanced scanning and 3D modelling. Scientific specialists and the APSARA National Authority, which manages the Angkor Archaeological Park, are reviewing the museum’s narrative to ensure that its presentation is historically accurate and culturally appropriate.
The initiative originated around 2020 as a collaboration involving Cambodian market-development company Confluences and ICONEM, but its original timetable was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. In September 2024, Immersive Angkor signed a memorandum of understanding with the APSARA National Authority covering scientific supervision, digital scanning and heritage preservation. Under that agreement, data and reconstructions produced from selected monuments are to be shared with the authority, while APSARA personnel will receive training in scanning technologies.
Legendary Entertainment and Culture Group operates tourism, live-entertainment and hospitality ventures across Asia, including projects developed with French historical theme-park operator Puy du Fou. The group has described Immersive Angkor as its flagship Cambodian investment and has indicated that further projects could follow.
For Siem Reap, the museum is intended to complement rather than replace visits to the temples, giving travellers greater historical context while encouraging longer stays and additional evening and cultural activities. The government has welcomed the investment as part of a broader effort to diversify Siem Reap’s tourism economy and present Cambodian civilisation to a wider international audience.
